World Environment Day 2023 

World Environment Day is celebrated on June 5 every year to raise awareness and encourage action for the protection of our planet. It was first established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1972, and since then, over 150 countries participate in various activities to celebrate this day. World Environment Day is an important day to raise awareness and encourage action for the protection of our planet.

he world celebrated World Environment Day as the largest global forum to promote environmental protection since its creation by the United Nations Environment Program during the Stockholm Conference on the Human Environment in 1972. 

 

  UNEP  called for greater efforts to reduce waste and move towards a circular economy, as well as publishing a Beat Plastic Pollution practice guide and encouraging posts on social media with the hashtag BeatPlasticPollutionMore than 400 million tons of plastic are produced every year, of which less than 10% are recycled, and about 19-23 million tons end up in bodies of water every year. Microplastics also pose a threat to health, as each person consumes around 50,000 plastic particles every year.

                                                 World Environment Day 2023: Theme 

 Ivory Coast hosts the 50th anniversary of the World Environment Day  with the theme "solutions to plastic pollution". In previous years, the themes were "Beat Air Pollution" (2019), "Biodiversity" (2020) and "Ecosystem Restoration" (2021). The topic is announced several months in advance, so that the preparation and planning of arrangements and activities is possibleWorld .

 Every year, the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) also publishes a  World Environment Day poster. These posts aim to raise awareness of a chosen topic and encourage people to take action in their communities. The posters are distributed worldwide and individuals and organizations are encouraged to display them in their homes, offices and public places.

  

                                                World Environment Day 2023: History 

 In 1972, a UN conference was organized  in Stockholm, where the environment was set as the central agenda.  The event also recognized the fundamental right of all people to a healthy environment.  This historic conference paved the way for global efforts to protect and conserve nature, leading to the creation of the United Nations Environment Programme. It also marked the official declaration of June 5 as World Environmental Awareness Day. Since its inception,  UNEP has been committed to many global initiatives aimed at protecting the natural resources of our planet. The first World Environment Day was celebrated in 1973, with the theme "Only One Earth". Since then, the event has addressed a number of pressing environmental issues, such as Only One Future for Our Children (1979), The World Tree. Peace" (1986), "For Life on Earth – Save Our Seas" (1998), "Connect with the Global Web of Life" (2001) and many others.

 The significance of World Environment Day 2023 is huge, from  environmental issues to raising awareness to initiating  environmental policy change around the world. As our planet's natural resources continue to decline, environmental approaches have become overly politicized and ineffective plans have failed to mitigate the devastating effects of climate change, pushing our planet toward imminent ecological collapse.  In such dire circumstances, World Environment Day 2023 will act as a powerful catalyst for environmental activists, providing a platform to voice their concerns and highlight the negative effects of global warming on the global community. Loss of human life, property and biodiversity is only a fraction of the consequences of environmental indifference.  For more than fifty years, World Environment Day has helped people understand the plight of  nature around us and encouraged them to take positive action.
